The debut of The World’s 50 Best Hotels was a milestone for travel enthusiasts worldwide. Drawing on 50 Best’s extensive experience and deep expertise in hospitality, the inaugural list of honorees established itself as a groundbreaking celebration of the top accommodations globally, embodying a new era of inclusive recognition in the hospitality industry.
50 Best sought an award that was on-brand but also gave a high-end feeling. Embracing simplicity and luxury, the awards were to be crafted with a distinctive touch of elegance, utilizing high-end materials like crystal to imbue each accolade with a sense of prestige.

For The World’s 50 Best Hotels awards, the design journey began with a deliberate exploration of form and function. The major challenge we encountered was within the design itself. Inspired by the program’s ethos of luxury and exclusivity, our designers embarked on creating pieces that strike a balance between belonging to a prestigious lineage of awards and standing out as modern icons.
Our initial concepts explored a variety of shapes—circular, square, and rectangular. Each piece needed to highlight the 50 Best logo and the award recipient information in a prominent, succinct way. While the design process began in a somewhat complicated fashion, in the end, each iteration was ironed out to create a simplified, prestigious award.
The design of each award piece was meticulously crafted to enhance its visual impact and symbolic significance. Attention was given to every detail, including the mirror coating at the base and joints, which not only adds a touch of elegance but also reflects the prestige associated with the award. By strategically beveling the sides of the piece, we created a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, ensuring that on stage, the award captures and refracts light in a mesmerizing display. This deliberate design choice not only emphasizes the award’s luxurious appearance but also enhances its presence as a beacon of achievement.
To complement the exquisite craftsmanship of the awards, custom gift boxes were specially designed to enhance the presentation experience. Each box was meticulously crafted to reflect the sophistication and exclusivity of the award itself. The luxurious finish and attention to detail in the packaging underscored the significance of receiving such an esteemed accolade, making the entire awarding experience a memorable celebration of excellence and accomplishment.
By reducing complexity and focusing on clean lines and understated details, the awards achieved a timeless aesthetic that resonates with the high standards of the hospitality industry. Each piece now not only honors the recipients but also serves as a beacon of contemporary design excellence, embodying both the tradition and innovation inherent in The World’s 50 Best Hotels awards program.
