Toyota partnered with Cristaux to reimagine their certification program and bring greater meaning to the recognition given to their collision centers. With over 500 centers striving to maintain high parameters of excellence, Toyota sought a refreshed approach that truly reflected the weight of their certification. The existing plaques had become lost among the many others displayed by shops, and the impact of Toyota’s achievement was not standing out as it should. This created the opportunity to build something more intentional and memorable.

In developing the new design, Cristaux aimed to create a plaque that carried significance well beyond a standard recognition piece. Every detail was considered to reflect Toyota’s values of precision, quality, and trust. The result was a full redesign that elevated the program, ensuring certified shops could proudly display their accomplishment in a way that not only stood apart visually, but also honored the rigorous standards they upheld. This strengthened Toyota’s certification program by giving recognition a sense of permanence and pride, making each plaque a symbol of achievement that carried true meaning for recipients.

CHALLENGES

During the manufacturing of Toyota’s certification plaque, Cristaux encountered several unique challenges that required precise problem-solving and craftsmanship. One of the first hurdles was achieving a perfect PMS match for Toyota’s signature red. Working with acrylic to capture this exact shade demanded close attention, as the color had to remain consistent and true to the brand’s identity. Beyond color, the design intent was to make the Toyota emblem the focal point of the piece, much like a hood ornament. This meant developing a plaque that not only carried strong visual presence, but also integrated seamlessly with Toyota’s brand essence.

From an engineering perspective, the fabrication process pushed boundaries. The hexagon accents machined into the lower portion of the plaque proved difficult to execute without scratching or scuffing the acrylic surface, requiring careful handling and refined techniques. Additionally, embedding the Toyota emblem into the piece presented its own set of complexities. Rather than relying on glue, Cristaux opted for a direct mount solution that preserved the integrity of the piece. Because the emblem was hollow, it had to be secured with screws from the backside, which was especially challenging given the thickness of the acrylic. To ensure durability and a clean display, Cristaux developed keyhole mounts, allowing the plaque to hang flush on the wall without risk of dislodging. These innovative adjustments not only overcame the technical challenges but also elevated the craftsmanship of the finished award.

The Creation

The final creation for Toyota’s certification program was a substantial and meaningful piece approximately 25” H x 12” W, this embodies the brand’s design language and values. Standing out from traditional recognition awards, the plaque featured carefully integrated details that gave it both visual strength and symbolic weight. The hexagon pattern at the bottom was intentionally inspired by the grilles found on Toyota’s newest models, tying the recognition piece directly back to the brand’s design DNA. This subtle yet powerful detail further elevated the plaque and reinforced Toyota’s identity at every level.

Beyond the plaque itself, Cristaux ensured the presentation experience was just as impactful. Each piece was delivered in beautifully crafted gift boxes that were designed to align with Toyota’s branding, creating a cohesive and premium unboxing moment. From the bold use of Toyota red in the acrylic to the centerpiece emblem reminiscent of a hood ornament, every element was carefully considered to give recipients a sense of pride and prestige. The end result was not just a plaque, but a complete recognition experience that elevated Toyota’s certification program and ensured each award would stand apart as a true symbol of achievement.
